10-16 SEPTEMBER - THE BUTTERFLY CLUB
It’s a story of Victorian London reimagined for Weimar Berlin brought to life in 2018 Melbourne. It’s got cops, robbers, beggars, whores and bankers. It’s capitalism you can hum along to. Bertolt Brecht’s epic Marxist musical comes to the Melbourne independent stage... but not quite as you remember. Blending songs, skits, synths and drama, this 60 minute reimagining of the 1928 classic asks how we can possibly fight the system when we can’t even imagine a world without it. If you ever wondered what an autotuned electropop rendition of Mack the Knife would sound like, then this is the show you’ve been waiting for.
Based on The Threepenny Opera by Bertolt Brecht, Elisabeth Hauptmann and Kurt Weill
Directed by Saro Lusty-Cavallari
