It’s a story of Victorian London reimagined for Weimar Berlin brought to life in 2018 Melbourne. It’s got cops, robbers, beggars, whores and bankers. It’s capitalism you can hum along to.

The Threepenny Opera (adjusted for inflation) is a devised 60 minute adaptation of the infamous 1928 musical that bites the hand that has generously been feeding it for countless revivals throughout the world. If you ever had the tenacity to imagine Brecht/Weill classics as autotuned electropop, this is the show for you.

Based on The Threepenny Opera by Bertolt Brecht, Elisabeth Hauptmann and Kurt Weill

Directed by Saro Lusty-Cavallari

26-27 MAY

We’re looking for a team of actors to help create and perform this exciting new version of The Threepenny Opera. Please note that we are NOT looking for singers and we encourage every actor to audition regardless of their singing confidence. Furthermore please do not hesitate to audition if you feel daunted by devising; while the specifics of the production will be discovered in rehearsal no writing or improvising skills are required.

For auditions please prepare a 1-3 minute monologue from a play of your choice. It’s important you’re very familiar with both the monologue and the play itself with special focus on the context of the scene you’re choosing. Show dates are 10-16 September and rehearsals will be twice a week (with potentially more closer to performance). Auditions will be held at the VCA Performing Arts Building (room to be confirmed).

To book an audition please fill out this Google form. If you have any other questions feel free to contact us here.
